Surrender

The troops are entrenched, many smiles apart

With positions surrounding a fortress of heart

The army's most loyal in protecting this base

It's borders patrolled by expressions of face

A dilemma of danger, this mine filled terrain

With cover the deepest where secrets remain

And the questions feared most, here in the middle

Are also the answers to the deadliest riddle

Just who is the leader, dispensing these orders

And who are we dodging, outside of these borders

From what we can tell, there are many such wars

On the most distant of seas and nearest of shores

With the soldiers all fighting a similar fight

Just where is this enemy, hidden from sight

He hides not in trenches, but rather inside

The soldiers of fear, marching in pride

Their generals have passed, yet lead from the grave

Wounded in youth, by a battle they save

They fight not to kill, but die to be praised

In the cruelest of wars, a question is raised

If we know that it's shields and not weapons they render

Can we lay down our own, in a peaceful surrender
